What model of psychotherapy?
Whatever work we do, you will be the centre of this process and I will be there for you. Models will only be there as reference tools.
My work is based on a Psychosynthesis approach that cares for our pains and obstacles but also acknowledges the beauty in all of us. |It works with our natural tendency towards growth and harmony.
Roberto Assagioli, The founder of this model, was a student of Sigmund Freud and started his work as a Psychoanalyst acknowledging the unconscious roots of the conflicts that we all experience in various forms. Assagioli has developed specific therapeutic techniques working with various aspects of ourselves.
Through my subsequent work within the framework of the Westminster Pastoral Foundation in Sutton, I have deepened my knowledge and practice of Psychodynamics, working with the dynamics of the interaction in the counselling room in the present moment and discovering how this relates to the past. This relational approach allows us to identify some of our habitual patterns and can lead to transformation.
Through my training and through my work especially at GP Surgeries in particular, I have developed my knowledge and experience of CBT. I find this model complementary to most other approaches as it helps to discover our automatic thoughts and gives us means to work with our habitual patterns. It provides ways of retraining ourselves by making changes to our unhelpful behaviours. I have found it particularly useful in dealing with anger management, depression and anxiety.
CBT can be combined with a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) as this approach can help us to identify more clearly difficult thoughts and emotional patterns through relaxation and meditative techniques.
I am also fully trained in a new therapy called Lifespan Integration Therapy (LI). It is based in neuroscience and has evolved from EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). It appears to be particularly helpful in dealing with recent or distant Trauma.
